Both transplants--me from Saginaw MI, he from Buffalo NY
Hobbies include swing dancing, scootering, traveling
Inspiration--much of it comes from nature, also vintage furniture and advertisements. Science inspires us, as do mystical things (our Chinese zodiac collection). Bold, graphic prints inspire us. Angela Adams handbags and other mid-century things inspire us. Art deco murals and architecture inspire us, as do ridiculous things like garden gnomes (our Gnome Home designs) and psychedelic album covers (see our owl and hourglass designs).
Clientele is young (young contemporary), hip, fashion-forward, kitschy (not exactly mainstream), and loves color. Fit of t-shirts is a junior fit (slim). Our fall line will be a more contemporary fit.
In 10-15 years, would love to be in every cool, moderate to better boutique in Europe and the US at least, perhaps worldwide. The sky is the limit for Blue Platypus. If you buy it we'll make it!
I went to fashion school and then, with the help of father David and Scott (fiancee) went into business about 1 1/2 years ago. We started with t-shirts and now are branching out into accessories, coats, skirts, more of a complete line of clothing. Everything is original artwork and design. We try to do as many different treatments as we can-- custom garment dye colors, flocking, rhinestones, studs, discharge (taking the color out of shirts), applique, cool trims, upholstery fabrics for fall 05.
